Mobility DisplayPort (MyDP) - definition

The Mobility DisplayPort, also known as MyDP or SlimPort, was released by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) in June 2012.

MyDP is an extension of the DisplayPort connectivity standard. It enables mobile devices to output HD video, audio, and 3D content to external screens over the existing format of a microUSB port, which is the prevalent connectivity port on mobile devices.

MyDP supports uncompressed video up to 1080p60 or 1080p30 with 3D content over HDMI 1.4 (up to 5.4 Gbps of bandwidth) and also supports DisplayPort, DVI and VGA connections.

MyDP enables charging of the mobile device battery via the MyDP cable from the power provided by the DisplayPort-enabled display.

MyDP-to-HDMI adapters exist as well.

The first mobile devices to use the MyDP standard are:

  • Nexus 7 (2013), made by Asus
  • Google Nexus 4, made by LG
  • LG G2
  • LG G Pad 8.3
